From the 2003 mini-reunion!

Report from Susie Forbes-Honeycutt (photos below):

I have wanted to tell you about the reunion "that almost didn't happen" and let you know what a wonderful time we had, thanks to Wayne and Pat Long and others who were able to pull things together in such a short time.  It all began with the Longs hosting a fun social at their lovely home Friday evening for about 20 or so of us.  It was truly amazing to see that some hadn't changed one bit while others of us were not recognizable at all!!   Fortunately, we had annuals to refer to that helped to jog our memories . . . after all, 40 years does make a difference!! :)

Then for Saturday evening, arrangements were made for a barbeque and dancing at the VFW.  Surprisingly, about 50 or so folks showed up to feast, visit, and dance to "old time favorites".   Norvell Berglan did a great job in keeping the music flowing, while Jon Sanders was the chief chef and with the help of a few others, turned out some mighty tasty hamburgers with all the trimmings.  However, they both managed to find time to dance and mingle.

Harold Evans delighted us all by singing a song he wrote.  Didn't bother him that he had no accompaniment - he just belted it out acappella and touched all our hearts!

The honorary guests were Mr. and Mrs. McPherson and Miss Helen Shipp.  It was wonderful to meet with them and appreciated so much that they took the time to come and join in our fun.

Special thanks went to Bob and Carol Parrish for providing a decadent and beautifully decorated cake for dessert. It was a great evening and some of us didn't want the festivities to end, so activities sort of continued for a few days.  Sunday morning folks met at different places for breakfast.  Milton and Patsy Hodges enjoyed hosting a breakfast for a few of the guys.

Several of us girls enjoyed a special luncheon with "our Miss Shipp", one of the teachers at HHS who truly made a difference in many of our lives!  This was such a neat time even though she didn't remember all of us (she tried :) ).  She loved our stories and memories we had of her.  She is just delightful and so enjoyed this time.  She stays very active, has traveled all over the world, and teaches a sunday School class of senior folks.  What a great time we had with her.

Lastly, there was the tour of old Hobbs High and what memories flooded our minds as we walked those familiar halls.

I hope you enjoy viewing some of the pictures I took.  Just sorry there wasn't more taken and really sorry there wasn't a group picture taken.

We were grateful to all those who worked so hard to pick up the pieces of the reunion and press on.  It was great fun getting reacquainted, making new friends and new memories.  Can't wait 'till next time.

Phil Dyer is pointing to an image that is barely visible... it says "SR 60".  He knows the guys who did it, but is not tellin'!
