Association of HHS
Classes of 1960-1961

September 14, 2005

Dear 1960 Classmate,

Our 44th and 45th reunion was a great time. Approximately 125 attended the Friday and Saturday night activities on August 19 and 20. It was wonderful to see everyone and get caught up with their lives. As hard as we tried, there still is never enough time to visit with everyone.

We were honored to have as our guests Mrs. Katie McPherson, Ms. Helen Shipp, Mr. Bob Lane, and Mr. Jim Daugherty.

Scholarships were awarded to HHS graduates Aaron Joseph Morin and Francisco “Ernie” Rosalez in the amount of $2,000 each in honor of Stanley McPherson, ’61, who was killed in Viet Nam in 1967. Aaron Morin will attend the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in Socorro and Ernie Rosalez will attend the St. Louis University in Missouri where he will be a pre-medical major.

We extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who donated to the scholarship fund in 2003. At that time Mike Plumlee and Sarah Curry raised $6107 for scholarships. Our scholarship effort is on-going and we invite you to make donations throughout the next few years for our 50th reunion. Jim Foley is our class treasurer and you may send your donation to him at 513 Chapparal Dr., Belen, NM 87002. We currently have $3860 in the scholarship fund. The 1960-1961 class association is a designated tax-deductible organization and a receipt will be issued for donations. For more information about the scholarship fund, please contact Jim at 505-864-5761 or 505-864-7593.

Many people helped make our reunion successful: Bob Lowry for being our emcee, Mary Ann McAnally for leading us in prayer and the alma mater, Dorothy Lacey Landoll and Bob for recognizing our veterans, and citing the names of classmates who left us much too soon, Danny Harris for his eulogy of Stanley McPherson, Sarah Curry for updating us on the scholarship selection criteria, the classmates who played in the Half Fast Kazoo band directed by Bob Lane, Ruth Ann Plato Pruett for providing a great tour of the high school and buildings, and Patsy Forbes Hodges and Susie Forbes Honeycutt for decorating the ballroom. Thank you all for your help.

The group picture for each class will be available to copy from our web site at www.hhs1960.us.  John Meekins wrote the press release about the scholarship awards and the article was published in the Hobbs News-Sun. The article will be available on our web site. Also, if you would like to send photos from this reunion to be on our web site, please email them to Kathy at norvell.berglan@suddenlink.net. Please identify the people and places for all photos. Also available on the web site are the email addresses for the 1960 class. The list of reunion attendees will be added soon. Please remember to keep Dorothy informed when your contact information changes.

Our 50th reunion in 2010 will be a special time, and we welcome your suggestions to help us make it memorable. Please let us know your ideas! We’ve already discussed the idea to make a yearbook, so you’ll be hearing from us. We thank you so much for your support and participation and for coming to the reunion.

Cordially,

Dorothy Lacey Landoll
Sarah Curry
Pat Leach Long
Jim Foley
Kathleen West White
